Founded by two women, this atelier in Cairo was created with a desire to utilize the finest Egyptian materials and a twin interest in traditional Egyptian design and hand embroidery. But at the heart of Malaika is the impact it has on the local Egyptian women and refugees. Malaika teaches and employs underprivileged women, giving them an opportunity to achieve economic independence. Their beautifully embroidered table linens are crafted from the finest Egyptian cotton & linen, and handmade by women who have found empowerment in their learned techniques. In 2018, Malaika officially opened Threads of Hope, a tuition-free training and production center for hand embroidery and traditional Egyptian crafts.
